Major Win! Mass Medical Society Says No Doctor-Prescribed Suicide.

Today, at its Interim Meeting, the Massachusetts Medical Society’s House of Delegates voted, 178 to 56, to retain the Society’s long-standing opposition to physician assisted suicide. The HOD unanimously passed addition language endorsing quality end-of-life care.  Efforts to remove the statement opposing PAS began at the Annual Meeting last May.

Proponents of the change cited the upcoming 2012 ballot question to legalize physician assisted suicide, which some call “doctor prescribed suicide”, as a reason to look at the issue.

This is an important victory but we can’t rest on our laurels.  We must continue to get the word out about the dangers of Doctor-Prescribed Suicide.
